Lateral-torsional buckling of compressed and highly variable cross section beams

Ida Mascolo, Mario Pasquino (2016)

Curved and Layered Structures

Similarity:

In the critical state of a beam under central compression a flexural-torsional equilibrium shape becomes possible in addition to the fundamental straight equilibrium shape and the Euler bending. Particularly, torsional configuration takes place in all cases where the line of shear centres does not correspond with the line of centres of mass. This condition is obtained here about a z-axis highly variable section beam; with the assumptions that shear centres are aligned and line of centres...

Extremum theorems for finite-step back-ward-difference analysis of elastic-plastic nonlinearly hardening solids

Giulio Maier, Giorgio Novati (1988)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

Similarity:

For the finite-step, backward-difference analysis of elastic-plastic solids in small strains, a kinematic (potential energy) and a static (complementary energy) extremum property of the step solution are given under the following hypotheses: each yield function is the sum of an equivalent stress and a yield limit; the former is a positively homogeneous function of order one of stresses, the latter a nonlinear function of nondecreasing internal variables; suitable conditions of "material...

Buckling of beam-column problem of anisotropic cylindrical shells

Anukul De (1986)

Aplikace matematiky

Similarity:

The object of this paper is to formulate the differential equations in the beamcolumn problem of the buckling of anisotropic cylindrical shells, placed between the plates of a testing machine subject to an axial load P and a radial load H of sufficient magnitude to bring the expansion without constraint of the edges produced by P to zero deflection. The solution is obtained with necessary boundary conditions and the corresponding results for the isotropic case are deduced.

Buckling of anisotropic shells. II

Anukul De (1983)

Aplikace matematiky

Similarity:

The object of this paper is to find the solution of the differential equation of the buckling problem of anisotropic cylindrical shells with shear load in case of torsion of a long tube. The critical values of the shear load and the total torque are also found. The corresponding results for the isotropic case are deduced as a special case.

Energy methods for curved composite beams with partial shear interaction

István Ecsedi, Ákos József Lengyel (2015)

Curved and Layered Structures

Similarity:

This paper presents a derivation of the Rayleigh- Betti reciprocity relation for layered curved composite beams with interlayer slip. The principle of minimum of potential energy is also formulated for two-layer curved composite beams and its applications are illustrated by numerical examples. The solution of the presented problems are obtained by the Ritz method. The applications of the Rayleigh-Betti reciprocity relation proven are illustrated by some examples.
