The use of information and information gain in the analysis of attribute dependencies

Krzysztof MolińskiAnita DobekKamila Tomaszyk — 2012

Biometrical Letters

This paper demonstrates the possible conclusions which can be drawn from an analysis of entropy and information. Because of its universality, entropy can be widely used in different subjects, especially in biomedicine. Based on simulated data the similarities and differences between the grouping of attributes and testing of their independencies are shown. It follows that a complete exploration of data sets requires both of these elements. A new concept introduced in this paper is that of normed...

Power comparison of Rao′s score test, the Wald test and the likelihood ratio test in (2xc) contingency tables

Anita DobekKrzysztof MolińskiEwa Skotarczak — 2015

Biometrical Letters

There are several statistics for testing hypotheses concerning the independence of the distributions represented by two rows in contingency tables. The most famous are Rao′s score, the Wald and the likelihood ratio tests. A comparison of the power of these tests indicates the Wald test as the most powerful.
