Bruno CicolaniLuciano Bullini — 1978

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

In the present paper we describe some experiments on the mite Macrocheles matrius aimed at investigating: a) the possible role of sperm exhaustion in the laying of unfertilized eggs in the last part of the female reproductive period; b) the relationship between age and female receptivity and inseminability. The results obtained show: 1) the number of fertilized eggs laid by a single female does not increase if she mates more than once during her life; 2) with increasing age the receptivity and...

Bruno CicolaniLuciano Bullini — 1975

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

In the mite Macrocheles matrius (Hull), like in most Macrochelida species, the males arise from unfertilized eggs, while the females develop from fertilized eggs (arrhenotoky). This kind of reproduction should lead to oscillatory variations in the population sex ratio. In fact, in the case of a population with a 1 : 1 sex ratio or an excess of males, most (or the whole) of the eggs should be fertilized, determining in the following generations a considerable prevalence of females. In this new situation...

Giuseppe NascettiClaudio GrappelliLuciano Bullini — 1979

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

The taxonomic status and the genetic differentiation of human ascaris (Ascaris lumbricoides) and pig ascaris (A. suum) was investigated by means of electrophoretic studies at the following enzyme loci: Sdh, Ldh, Mdh-1, Mdh-2, Mdh-3, Idh-1, 6-Pgdh, G-6-pdh, G-3-pdh, Got-1, Got-2, Adk, Pgm-1, Pgm-2, Est-1, Est-2, Acph, Aldo, Tpi, Mpi and Phi. The results obtained clearly show that A. lumbricoides and A. suum are genetically well-differentiated species, easily and surely identifiable by electrophoresis....

Giuseppe NascettiLamberto TiziLuciano Bullini — 1979

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

The taxonomic status, the possible hybridization in nature and the genetic variability of Apodemus sylvaticus and A. flavicollis has been investigated using the electrophoretic analysis of 30 enzyme loci in field populations of both species, living sympatrically in the Tolfa hills (North-West of Rome). The results obtained show: 1) A. sylvaticus and A. flavicollis are reproductively isolated and genetically well-differentiated species, easily and surely identifiable by electrophoresis; 2) in the...

Anna Paola Bianchi BulliniLuciano Bullini — 1972

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

The chromosome complement of two parthenogenetic Ostracodan species is described, that is Eucypris virens (Jurine) and Cypris bispinosa Lucas. The karyotype of E. virens (12 chromosomes in the somatic cells) consists of two metacentric chromosomes of very different length, one submetacentric, one subtelocentric and eight acrocentric. No chromosome pairs can be suggested according to the length and the centromeric position. The karyotype of C. bispinosa consists, in the somatic cells, of 22 chromosomes,...

Il corredo cromosomico di Uromenus riggioi (Orthoptera-Ephippigeridae)

Anna Paola Bianchi BulliniLuciano Bullini — 1971

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

The chromosome complement of an endemic species of Ephippigerid from Sicily, Uromenus riggioi, recently described by La Greca, is illustrated in the present paper. The karyotype (2 n = 23 in the male and 2 n = 24 in the female) consists of two large meta-centric pairs, nine acrocentric pairs showing a regularly decreasing length (the shorter fiveones are dot-shaped at metaphase) and two longer acrocentric X chromosomes. A single X chromosome is present in the male. These cytological findings reveal...

Luciano BulliniAnna Paola Bianchi Bullini — 1971

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

The reproduction biology of Italian populations of the Phasmid Clonopsis gallica was studied. The reproduction always occurs by thelytokous parthenogenesis. No males were observed in nature or in the laboratory strains. The chromosome number was established to be 54-57 in embryonic cells and egg follicle epithelium. The number most frequently observed was 56 of which 34 appear subtelocentric and 22 metacentric or submetacentric. The longest chromosome, unequal and subtelocentric, shows a secondary...

Phosphoglucomutase polymorphism in seven Lepidoptera species

Luciano BulliniRossella CianchiGiuseppe NascettiLuigi Renna — 1975

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

Ettore BioccaGiuseppe NascettiAlbertina IoriRenata CostantiniLuciano Bullini — 1978

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

The equine parasites which have so far been classified as belonging to the single species Parascaris equorum (Goeze) have been shown to belong to two distinct species on the basis of morphological and karyological characters, and of the electrophoretic study of 27 enzyme loci. The name Parascaris univalens is proposed for the species with distally truncated spicula and karyotype 2 n = 2. The name “univalens” was used by Hertwig in 1890 to indicate horse ascarids with this karyotype. A complete description...

Ricerche cariologiche ed elettroforetiche su Parascaris univalens e Parascaris equorum

Luciano BulliniGiuseppe NascettiStefania CarrèFina RumoreEttore Biocca — 1978

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

The karyotypes of the two sibling species Parascaris equorum and P. univalens are illustrated, as well as their chromosome morphology. The chromosomes are characterized by heteropycnotic extremities and the absence of a well-defined centromerical zone. Furthermore in P. equorum one chromosome pair appears distinctly longer than the other, which would exclude the evolution of this species by a simple process of tetraploidization; this is also ruled out by the electrophoretic data. The electrophoretic...

Stability of frequencies of phosphoglucomutase alleles in Culex pipiens breeding in ecologically different environments

Luciano BulliniMario ColuzziAnna Paola Bianchi BulliniLuigi Renna — 1972

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

Roberto ArganoLuciano BulliniCarlo ConsiglioGraziella MuraElisabetta Raffaelli — 1971

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

The genetic basis of the albicans and discretum forms of Sphaeroma serratum has been studied utilizing two populations from the isle of Capri and from Naples respectively. The genetical data collected from our crosses [20 CaprixCapri, 18 CaprixNaples, 10(CaprixNaples)xCapri, 10(CaprixNaples)xNaples and 9(CaprixNaples)x(CaprixNaples)] suggest, at least for these populations, a polyfactorial determination of albicans and discretum. These results agree with the continuous variation between these two...

Ettore BioccaLuciano BulliniAlain G. ChabaudGiuseppe NascettiPaola OrecchiaLia Paggi — 1979

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

The taxonomy of the genus Bulinus is re-examined on the basis of morphology and of electrophoretic study of 20 gene-enzyme systems. The genus is at present divided into two subgenera: Bulinus and Physopsis. According to Mandahl-Barth the first subgenus is made up of three groups of species (the tropicus, truncatus and forskalii groups), while the species of the second subgenus are united in a fourth group (africanus). We have studied various species and subspecies belonging to the two subgenera...
