Monte Carlo simulation and analytic approximation of epidemic processes on large networks

Noémi NagyPéter Simon — 2013

Open Mathematics

Low dimensional ODE approximations that capture the main characteristics of SIS-type epidemic propagation along a cycle graph are derived. Three different methods are shown that can accurately predict the expected number of infected nodes in the graph. The first method is based on the derivation of a master equation for the number of infected nodes. This uses the average number of SI edges for a given number of the infected nodes. The second approach is based on the observation that the epidemic...

Hardy type inequalities for two-parameter Vilenkin-Fourier coefficients

Péter SimonFerenc Weisz — 1997

Studia Mathematica

Our main result is a Hardy type inequality with respect to the two-parameter Vilenkin system (*) ( k = 1 j = 1 | f ̂ ( k , j ) | p ( k j ) p - 2 ) 1 / p C p f H * * p (1/2 < p≤2) where f belongs to the Hardy space H * * p ( G m × G s ) defined by means of a maximal function. This inequality is extended to p > 2 if the Vilenkin-Fourier coefficients of f form a monotone sequence. We show that the converse of (*) also holds for all p > 0 under the monotonicity assumption.

Waves of excitations in heterogeneous annular region, asymmetric arrangement

András VolfordPeter SimonHenrik Farkas — 1999

Banach Center Publications

This paper deals with the propagation of waves around a circular obstacle. The medium is heterogeneous: the velocity is smaller in the inner region and greater in the outer region. The interface separating the two regions is also circular, and the obstacle is located eccentrically inside it. The different front portraits are classified.
