Harmonic functions on the real hyperbolic ball I: Boundary values and atomic decomposition of Hardy spaces

Philippe Jaming — 1999

Colloquium Mathematicae

We study harmonic functions for the Laplace-eltrami operator on the real hyperbolic space n . We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for these functions and their normal derivatives to have a boundary distribution. In doing so, we consider different behaviors of hyperbolic harmonic functions according to the parity of the dimension of the hyperbolic ball n . We then study the Hardy spaces H p ( n ) , 0

A characterization of Fourier transforms

Philippe Jaming — 2010

Colloquium Mathematicae

The aim of this paper is to show that, in various situations, the only continuous linear (or not) map that transforms a convolution product into a pointwise product is a Fourier transform. We focus on the cyclic groups ℤ/nℤ, the integers ℤ, the torus 𝕋 and the real line. We also ask a related question for the twisted convolution.

Harmonic functions on classical rank one balls

Philippe Jaming — 2001

Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana

On the Fourier transform of the symmetric decreasing rearrangements

Philippe Jaming — 2011

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Inspired by work of Montgomery on Fourier series and Donoho-Strak in signal processing, we investigate two families of rearrangement inequalities for the Fourier transform. More precisely, we show that the L 2 behavior of a Fourier transform of a function over a small set is controlled by the L 2 behavior of the Fourier transform of its symmetric decreasing rearrangement. In the L 1 case, the same is true if we further assume that the function has a support of finite measure. As a byproduct,...

Uncertainty principles for orthonormal bases

Philippe Jaming

Séminaire Équations aux dérivées partielles

In this survey, we present various forms of the uncertainty principle (Hardy, Heisenberg, Benedicks...). We further give a new interpretation of the uncertainty principles as a statement about the time-frequency localization of elements of an orthonormal basis, which improves previous unpublished results of H. Shapiro. Finally, we reformulate some uncertainty principles in terms of properties of the free heat and shrödinger equations.

Uncertainty principles for integral operators

Saifallah GhobberPhilippe Jaming — 2014

Studia Mathematica

The aim of this paper is to prove new uncertainty principles for integral operators with bounded kernel for which there is a Plancherel Theorem. The first of these results is an extension of Faris’s local uncertainty principle which states that if a nonzero function f L ² ( d , μ ) is highly localized near a single point then (f) cannot be concentrated in a set of finite measure. The second result extends the Benedicks-Amrein-Berthier uncertainty principle and states that a nonzero function f L ² ( d , μ ) and its integral...

Hermite functions and uncertainty principles for the Fourier and the windowed Fourier transforms.

Aline BonamiDemange, Bruno, Jaming, Philippe — 2003

Revista Matemática Iberoamericana

We extend an uncertainty principle due to Beurling into a characterization of Hermite functions. More precisely, all functions f on Rd which may be written as P(x)exp(-(Ax,x)), with A a real symmetric definite positive matrix, are characterized by integrability conditions on the product f(x)f(y). We then obtain similar results for the windowed Fourier transform (also known, up to elementary changes of functions, as the radar ambiguity function or the Wigner transform). We complete the paper with...
