Uniqueness and weak stability for multi-dimensional transport equations with one-sided Lipschitz coefficient

Francois BouchutFrancois JamesSimona Mancini — 2005

Annali della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa - Classe di Scienze

The Cauchy problem for a multidimensional linear transport equation with discontinuous coefficient is investigated. Provided the coefficient satisfies a one-sided Lipschitz condition, existence, uniqueness and weak stability of solutions are obtained for either the conservative backward problem or the advective forward problem by duality. Specific uniqueness criteria are introduced for the backward conservation equation since weak solutions are not unique. A main point is the introduction of a generalized...

Diffusion limit of the Lorentz model : asymptotic preserving schemes

Christophe BuetStéphane CordierBrigitte Lucquin-DesreuxSimona Mancini — 2002

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

This paper deals with the diffusion limit of a kinetic equation where the collisions are modeled by a Lorentz type operator. The main aim is to construct a discrete scheme to approximate this equation which gives for any value of the Knudsen number, and in particular at the diffusive limit, the right discrete diffusion equation with the same value of the diffusion coefficient as in the continuous case. We are also naturally interested with a discretization which can be used with few velocity discretization...
