Uniformly completely Ramsey sets

Udayan Darji — 1993

Colloquium Mathematicae

Galvin and Prikry defined completely Ramsey sets and showed that the class of completely Ramsey sets forms a σ-algebra containing open sets. However, they used two definitions of completely Ramsey. We show that they are not equivalent as they remarked. One of these definitions is a more uniform property than the other. We call it the uniformly completely Ramsey property. We show that some of the results of Ellentuck, Silver, Brown and Aniszczyk concerning completely Ramsey sets also hold for uniformly...

Path differentiation: further unification

Udayan DarjiMichael Evans — 1995

Fundamenta Mathematicae

A. M. Bruckner, R. J. O'Malley, and B. S. Thomson introduced path differentiation as a vehicle for unifying the theory of numerous types of generalized differentiation of real valued functions of a real variable. Part of their classification scheme was based on intersection properties of the underlying path systems. Here, additional light is shed on the relationships between these various types of path differentiation and it is shown how composite differentiation and first return differentiation...

Fine properties of Baire one functions

Udayan DarjiMichael EvansChris FreilingRichard O'Malley — 1998

Fundamenta Mathematicae

A new theorem in the theory of first return representations of Baire class one functions of a real variable is presented which has as immediate consequences several known characterizations of standard subclasses of the Baire one functions. Further, this theorem yields new insights into how finely Baire one functions can be recovered and yields a characterization of another subclass of Baire one functions.

Complexity of curves

Udayan B. DarjiAlberto Marcone — 2004

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We show that each of the classes of hereditarily locally connected, finitely Suslinian, and Suslinian continua is Π₁¹-complete, while the class of regular continua is Π₀⁴-complete.
