Uncertainty quantification for data assimilation in a steady incompressible Navier-Stokes problem

Marta D’EliaAlessandro Veneziani — 2013

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

The reliable and effective assimilation of measurements and numerical simulations in engineering applications involving computational fluid dynamics is an emerging problem as soon as new devices provide more data. In this paper we are mainly driven by hemodynamics applications, a field where the progressive increment of measures and numerical tools makes this problem particularly up-to-date. We adopt a Bayesian approach to the inclusion of noisy data in the incompressible steady Navier-Stokes equations...

On a nonlinear equation of the vibrating string

Angela IannelliGiovanni ProuseAlessandro Veneziani — 1994

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

A nonlinear model of the vibrating string is studied and global existence and uniqueness theorems for the solution of the Cauchy-Dirichlet problem are given. The model is then compared to the classical D'Alembert model and to a nonlinear model due to Kirchhoff.

Optimized Schwarz coupling of Bidomain and Monodomain models in electrocardiology

Luca Gerardo-GiordaMauro PeregoAlessandro Veneziani — 2011

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

The Bidomain model is nowadays one of the most accurate mathematical descriptions of the action potential propagation in the heart. However, its numerical approximation is in general fairly expensive as a consequence of the mathematical features of this system. For this reason, a simplification of this model, called Monodomain problem is quite often adopted in order to reduce computational costs. Reliability of this model is however questionable, in particular in the presence of applied currents...
