Asymptotics of counts of small components in random structures and models of coagulation-fragmentation

Boris L. Granovsky (2013)

ESAIM: Probability and Statistics

We establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the convergence (in the sense of finite dimensional distributions) of multiplicative measures on the set of partitions. The multiplicative measures depict distributions of component spectra of random structures and also the equilibria of classic models of statistical mechanics and stochastic processes of coagulation-fragmentation. We show that the convergence of multiplicative measures is equivalent to the asymptotic independence of counts of...

Oscillation of Mertens’ product formula

Harold G. Diamond, Janos Pintz (2009)

Journal de Théorie des Nombres de Bordeaux

Mertens’ product formula asserts that p x 1 - 1 p log x e - γ as x . Calculation shows that the right side of the formula exceeds the left side for 2 x 10 8 . It was suggested by Rosser and Schoenfeld that, by analogy with Littlewood’s result on π ( x ) - li x , this and a complementary inequality might change their sense for sufficiently large values of x . We show this to be the case.

Solution to a problem of Bombieri

Andrew Granville (1993)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti Lincei. Matematica e Applicazioni

We solve a problem of Bombieri, stated in connection with the «prime number theorem» for function fields.
