Dualization in algebraic K-theory and the invariant e¹ of quadratic forms over schemes

Marek Szyjewski (2011)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

In the classical Witt theory over a field F, the study of quadratic forms begins with two simple invariants: the dimension of a form modulo 2, called the dimension index and denoted e⁰: W(F) → ℤ/2, and the discriminant e¹ with values in k₁(F) = F*/F*², which behaves well on the fundamental ideal I(F)= ker(e⁰). Here a more sophisticated situation is considered, of quadratic forms over a scheme and, more generally, over an exact category with duality. Our purposes are: ...

Enlacements d’intervalles et torsion de Whitehead

Jean-Yves Le Dimet (2001)

Exchange rings with stable range one

Huanyin Chen (2007)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We characterize exchange rings having stable range one. An exchange ring R has stable range one if and only if for any regular a R , there exist an e E ( R ) and a u U ( R ) such that a = e + u and a R e R = 0 if and only if for any regular a R , there exist e r . a n n ( a + ) and u U ( R ) such that a = e + u if and only if for any a , b R , R / a R R / b R a R b R .

Non-abelian congruences between L -values of elliptic curves

Daniel Delbourgo, Tom Ward (2008)

Annales de l’institut Fourier

Let E be a semistable elliptic curve over . We prove weak forms of Kato’s K 1 -congruences for the special values L 1 , E / ( μ p n , Δ p n ) . More precisely, we show that they are true modulo p n + 1 , rather than modulo p 2 n . Whilst not quite enough to establish that there is a non-abelian L -function living in K 1 p [ [ Gal ( ( μ p , Δ p ) / ) ] ] , they do provide strong evidence towards the existence of such an analytic object. For example, if n = 1 these verify the numerical congruences found by Tim and Vladimir Dokchitser.

Strong separativity over exchange rings

Huanyin Chen (2008)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

An exchange ring R is strongly separative provided that for all finitely generated projective right R -modules A and B , A A A B A B . We prove that an exchange ring R is strongly separative if and only if for any corner S of R , a S + b S = S implies that there exist u , v S such that a u = b v and S u + S v = S if and only if for any corner S of R , a S + b S = S implies that there exists a right invertible matrix a b * M 2 ( S ) . The dual assertions are also proved.
