Modeling the role of constant and time varying recycling delay on an ecological food chain

Banibrata Mukhopadhyay, Rakhi Bhattacharyya (2010)

Applications of Mathematics

We consider a mathematical model of nutrient-autotroph-herbivore interaction with nutrient recycling from both autotroph and herbivore. Local and global stability criteria of the model are studied in terms of system parameters. Next we incorporate the time required for recycling of nutrient from herbivore as a constant discrete time delay. The resulting DDE model is analyzed regarding stability and bifurcation aspects. Finally, we assume the recycling delay in the oscillatory form to model the...

On Nonlinear Dynamics of Predator-Prey Models with Discrete Delay

S. Ruan (2009)

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

In this survey, we briefly review some of our recent studies on predator-prey models with discrete delay. We first study the distribution of zeros of a second degree transcendental polynomial. Then we apply the general results on the distribution of zeros of the second degree transcendental polynomial to various predator-prey models with discrete delay, including Kolmogorov-type predator-prey models, generalized Gause-type predator-prey models with harvesting, etc. Bogdanov-Takens bifurcations...

On the dynamics of a vaccination model with multiple transmission ways

Shu Liao, Weiming Yang (2013)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

In this paper, we present a vaccination model with multiple transmission ways and derive the control reproduction number. The stability analysis of both the disease-free and endemic equilibria is carried out, and bifurcation theory is applied to explore a variety of dynamics of this model. In addition, we present numerical simulations to verify the model predictions. Mathematical results suggest that vaccination is helpful for disease control by decreasing the control reproduction number below unity....

Patterns, Memory and Periodicity in Two-Neuron Delayed Recurrent Inhibitory Loops

J. Ma, J. Wu (2010)

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

We study the coexistence of multiple periodic solutions for an analogue of the integrate-and-fire neuron model of two-neuron recurrent inhibitory loops with delayed feedback, which incorporates the firing process and absolute refractory period. Upon receiving an excitatory signal from the excitatory neuron, the inhibitory neuron emits a spike with a pattern-related delay, in addition to the synaptic delay. We present a theoretical framework to view...

Stability and Hopf bifurcation analysis for a Lotka-Volterra predator-prey model with two delays

Changjin Xu, Maoxin Liao, Xiaofei He (2011)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

In this paper, a two-species Lotka-Volterra predator-prey model with two delays is considered. By analyzing the associated characteristic transcendental equation, the linear stability of the positive equilibrium is investigated and Hopf bifurcation is demonstrated. Some explicit formulae for determining the stability and direction of Hopf bifurcation periodic solutions bifurcating from Hopf bifurcations are obtained by using normal form theory and center manifold theory. Some numerical simulations...

Stability switches for some class of delayed population models

Joanna Skonieczna, Urszula Foryś (2011)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We study stability switches for some class of delay differential equations with one discrete delay. We describe and use a simple method of checking the change of stability which originally comes from the paper of Cook and Driessche (1986). We explain this method on the examples of three types of prey-predator models with delay and compare the dynamics of these models under increasing delay.

The effect of time delay and Hopf bifurcation in a tumor-immune system competition model with negative immune response

Radouane Yafia (2009)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We consider a system of delay differential equations modelling the tumor-immune system competition with negative immune response and three positive stationary points. The dynamics of the first two positive solutions are studied in terms of the local stability. We are particularly interested in the study of the Hopf bifurcation problem to predict the occurrence and stability of a limit cycle bifurcating from the second positive stationary point, when the delay (taken as a parameter) crosses some...

Two-mode bifurcation in solution of a perturbed nonlinear fourth order differential equation

Ahmed Abbas Mizeal, Mudhir A. Abdul Hussain (2012)

Archivum Mathematicum

In this paper, we are interested in the study of bifurcation solutions of nonlinear wave equation of elastic beams located on elastic foundations with small perturbation by using local method of Lyapunov-Schmidt.We showed that the bifurcation equation corresponding to the elastic beams equation is given by the nonlinear system of two equations. Also, we found the parameters equation of the Discriminant set of the specified problem as well as the bifurcation diagram.
