Existence and uniqueness of solutions for some degenerate nonlinear elliptic equations

Albo Carlos Cavalheiro (2014)

Archivum Mathematicum

In this article we are interested in the existence and uniqueness of solutions for the Dirichlet problem associated with the degenerate nonlinear elliptic equations Δ ( v ( x ) | Δ u | p - 2 Δ u ) - j = 1 n D j [ ω ( x ) 𝒜 j ( x , u , u ) ] = f 0 ( x ) - j = 1 n D j f j ( x ) , i n Ω in the setting of the weighted Sobolev spaces.

Existence for the stationary MHD-equations coupled to heat transfer with nonlocal radiation effects

Pierre-Étienne Druet (2009)

Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal

We consider the problem of influencing the motion of an electrically conducting fluid with an applied steady magnetic field. Since the flow is originating from buoyancy, heat transfer has to be included in the model. The stationary system of magnetohydrodynamics is considered, and an approximation of Boussinesq type is used to describe the buoyancy. The heat sources given by the dissipation of current and the viscous friction are not neglected in the fluid. The vessel containing the fluid is embedded...

Existence of a renormalized solution of nonlinear degenerate elliptic problems

Youssef Akdim, Chakir Allalou (2014)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We study a general class of nonlinear elliptic problems associated with the differential inclusion β ( u ) - d i v ( a ( x , D u ) + F ( u ) ) f in Ω where f L ( Ω ) . The vector field a(·,·) is a Carathéodory function. Using truncation techniques and the generalized monotonicity method in function spaces we prove existence of renormalized solutions for general L -data.

Existence of entropy solutions for degenerate quasilinear elliptic equations in L 1

Albo Carlos Cavalheiro (2014)

Communications in Mathematics

In this article, we prove the existence of entropy solutions for the Dirichlet problem ( P ) - div [ ω ( x ) 𝒜 ( x , u , u ) ] = f ( x ) - div ( G ) , in Ω u ( x ) = 0 , on Ω where Ω is a bounded open set of N , N 2 , f L 1 ( Ω ) and G / ω [ L p ' ( Ω , ω ) ] N .

Existence of renormalized solutions for parabolic equations without the sign condition and with three unbounded nonlinearities

Y. Akdim, J. Bennouna, M. Mekkour, H. Redwane (2012)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We study the problem ∂b(x,u)/∂t - div(a(x,t,u,Du)) + H(x,t,u,Du) = μ in Q = Ω×(0,T), b ( x , u ) | t = 0 = b ( x , u ) in Ω, u = 0 in ∂Ω × (0,T). The main contribution of our work is to prove the existence of a renormalized solution without the sign condition or the coercivity condition on H(x,t,u,Du). The critical growth condition on H is only with respect to Du and not with respect to u. The datum μ is assumed to be in L ¹ ( Q ) + L p ' ( 0 , T ; W - 1 , p ' ( Ω ) ) and b(x,u₀) ∈ L¹(Ω).

Existence of solutions for two types of generalized versions of the Cahn-Hilliard equation

Martin Heida (2015)

Applications of Mathematics

We show existence of solutions to two types of generalized anisotropic Cahn-Hilliard problems: In the first case, we assume the mobility to be dependent on the concentration and its gradient, where the system is supplied with dynamic boundary conditions. In the second case, we deal with classical no-flux boundary conditions where the mobility depends on concentration u , gradient of concentration u and the chemical potential Δ u - s ' ( u ) . The existence is shown using a newly developed generalization of gradient...

Existence of solutions to nonlinear advection-diffusion equation applied to Burgers' equation using Sinc methods

Kamel Al-Khaled (2014)

Applications of Mathematics

This paper has two objectives. First, we prove the existence of solutions to the general advection-diffusion equation subject to a reasonably smooth initial condition. We investigate the behavior of the solution of these problems for large values of time. Secondly, a numerical scheme using the Sinc-Galerkin method is developed to approximate the solution of a simple model of turbulence, which is a special case of the advection-diffusion equation, known as Burgers' equation. The approximate solution...

Existence of strong solutions for nonisothermal Korteweg system

Boris Haspot (2009)

Annales mathématiques Blaise Pascal

This work is devoted to the study of the initial boundary value problem for a general non isothermal model of capillary fluids derived by J. E Dunn and J. Serrin (1985) in [9, 16], which can be used as a phase transition model. We distinguish two cases, when the physical coefficients depend only on the density, and the general case. In the first case we can work in critical scaling spaces, and we prove global existence of solution and uniqueness for data close to a stable equilibrium. For general...

Existence of weak solutions to doubly degenerate diffusion equations

Aleš Matas, Jochen Merker (2012)

Applications of Mathematics

We prove existence of weak solutions to doubly degenerate diffusion equations u ˙ = Δ p u m - 1 + f ( m , p 2 ) by Faedo-Galerkin approximation for general domains and general nonlinearities. More precisely, we discuss the equation in an abstract setting, which allows to choose function spaces corresponding to bounded or unbounded domains Ω n with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. The function f can be an inhomogeneity or a nonlinearity involving terms of the form f ( u ) or div ( F ( u ) ) . In the appendix, an introduction to weak differentiability...
