Locally compact perfectly normal spaces may all be paracompact

Paul B. Larson, Franklin D. Tall (2010)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We work towards establishing that if it is consistent that there is a supercompact cardinal then it is consistent that every locally compact perfectly normal space is paracompact. At a crucial step we use some still unpublished results announced by Todorcevic. Modulo this and the large cardinal, this answers a question of S. Watson. Modulo these same unpublished results, we also show that if it is consistent that there is a supercompact cardinal, it is consistent that every locally compact space...

Measure-Theoretic Characterizations of Certain Topological Properties

David Buhagiar, Emmanuel Chetcuti, Anatolij Dvurečenskij (2005)

Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Mathematics

It is shown that Čech completeness, ultracompleteness and local compactness can be defined by demanding that certain equivalences hold between certain classes of Baire measures or by demanding that certain classes of Baire measures have non-empty support. This shows that these three topological properties are measurable, similarly to the classical examples of compact spaces, pseudo-compact spaces and realcompact spaces.

Near metric properties of function spaces

P. Gartside, E. Reznichenko (2000)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

"Near metric" properties of the space of continuous real-valued functions on a space X with the compact-open topology or with the topology of pointwise convergence are examined. In particular, it is investigated when these spaces are stratifiable or cometrisable.

On binary coproducts of frames

Xiangdong Chen (1992)

Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae

The structure of binary coproducts in the category of frames is analyzed, and the results are then applied widely in the study of compactness, local compactness (continuous frames), separatedness, pushouts and closed frame homomorphisms.
