Classification of Smoking Cessation Status Using Various Data Mining Methods

Kartelj, Aleksandar (2010)

Mathematica Balkanica New Series

AMS Subj. Classification: 62P10, 62H30, 68T01This study examines different approaches of binary classification applied to the prob- lem of making distinction between former and current smokers. Prediction is based on data collected in national survey performed by the National center for health statistics of America in 2000. The process consists of two essential parts. The first one determines which attributes are relevant to smokers status, by using methods like basic genetic algorithm and different evaluation...

Components of the game result in a football league

Boleslaw Kopociński (2001)

Applicationes Mathematicae

We assume that the result of a football game depends upon the difference of the strengths of the teams, home-field advantage, random factors and also other components. We describe the goal outcome per game by independent Poisson random variables; we concentrate on expected values. The least squares estimators of the parameters are obtained. The study is illustrated by examples from the Italian and Polish leagues.

Copula-based grouped risk aggregation under mixed operation

Quan Zhou, Zhenlong Chen, Ruixing Ming (2016)

Applications of Mathematics

This paper deals with the problem of risk measurement under mixed operation. For this purpose, we divide the basic risks into several groups based on the actual situation. First, we calculate the bounds for the subsum of every group of basic risks, then we obtain the bounds for the total sum of all the basic risks. For the dependency relationships between the basic risks in every group and all of the subsums, we give different copulas to describe them. The bounds for the aggregated risk under mixed...

Albert Prat, Pere Grima (1995)

Development of the kriging method with application

Pavel Krejčíř (2002)

Applications of Mathematics

This paper describes a modification of the kriging method for working with the square root transformation of a spatial random process. We have developed this method for the situation where the spatial process observed is not supposed to be stationary but the assumption is that its square root is a second order stationary spatial random process. Consequently this method is developed for estimating the integral of the process observed and finally some application of the method is given to data from...

Kendall's tau-type rank statistics in genome data

Moonsu Kang, Pranab Kumar Sen (2008)

Applications of Mathematics

High-dimensional data models abound in genomics studies, where often inadequately small sample sizes create impasses for incorporation of standard statistical tools. Conventional assumptions of linearity of regression, homoscedasticity and (multi-) normality of errors may not be tenable in many such interdisciplinary setups. In this study, Kendall's tau-type rank statistics are employed for statistical inference, avoiding most of parametric assumptions to a greater extent. The proposed procedures...

Kriging and masurement errors

István Fazekas, Alexander G. Kukush (2005)

Discussiones Mathematicae Probability and Statistics

A linear geostatistical model is considered. Properties of a universal kriging are studied when the locations of observations aremeasured with errors. Alternative prediction procedures are introduced and their least squares errors are analyzed.
