Abstract

The analysis of Knoop and Vickers micro-indentation numbers, measured on 11 specimens with seven different loads between 15 and 500 grams, shows that micro-hardness variation with load is related only to elastic recovery effects. Use of extrapolated Vickers and Knoop values (HVE and HKE), which allow direct comparison of the results given by the two indenters, is suggested.
