Abstract

A rigorous solution for the distributions of intervals between zeros of random functions is presented. Such a solution is then developed in detail for a gaussian random process. The present analysis has immediate connexions with the probabilistic approach to the calculation of apparent periods of wind generated waves on ocean surface. The results of this note may also find some applications in other fields of engineering.
