Abstract

top
This work is focused on the relations between seasonal rythms and the variation in the number of days elapsed between two successive depositions of larvae in Asellus aquaticus L. (Crust. Isop.). The individuals studied at this purpose were all kept at 18 °C and natural photoperiod; some of them had always lived at these conditions, while others were coming monthly from their natural habitat. It was shown that there is a linear relation between an increase in day length and a decrease in the number of days elapsed between two depositions of larvae, and that this relation is particularly evident for the individuals coming from their habitat just before the beginning of the experiment. This behaviour is probably due to the fact that environmental parameters affect the physiology of the individuals even after several weeks from their seizure in the field.
