In the Val Rosandra, near Trieste, two lithostratigraphic units are outcropping besides Quaternary formations: the "San Michele Mt. Limestones", here limited to the Paleocene-Lower Eocene, and the Flysch referred to the Eocene. Structurally, in the valley are present an asymmetric anticline, trending NW-SE, and some normal faults the chief of which, trending NNW-SSE, outcrops south of Santa Maria Church. The information obtained from two wells, 73 and 90 m deep, drilled for water researches in the Val Rosandra, is considered in the geological frame of the area.
