This paper deals with k-sets in S 3 , q such that every plane meets them at either ( n - 1 ) ⁢ q + 1 or n ⁢ q + 1 points ( 2 ≤ n ≤ q ) . Thus, with suitable graphic conditions, we obtain a new characterization of the hyperbolic quadrics and of the hermitian varieties in S 3 , q .
