Detection of the change point in the winter wheat experiment

Anna Szczepańska, Ewa Bakinowska (2012)

Biometrical Letters

Similarity:

This paper concerns detection of the change point, which is treated as an abrupt change in the response function or one of its derivatives. The change point is identified using the semiparametric model and the theory given by Speckman (1994). The theory is illustrated by a real experiment in wchich the dry biomass of winter wheat is studied.

A Bayesian model to compare vinification procedures

Federico Mattia Stefanini, Ottorino-Luca Pantani (2013)

Biometrical Letters

Similarity:

The effects of three pre-fermentative techniques (standard procedure, cold soak pre-fermentation and cryomaceration), temperature (20 or 30°C) and saignée (with/without) on the extraction of total anthocyanins were investigated during maceration of must obtained from Sangiovese grapes. A Bayesian hierarchical model was developed to estimate time-dependent contrasts while addressing the peculiar features displayed by the experimental units (wine tanks): substantial heterogeneity among...

Flocking with informed agents

Felipe Cucker, Cristián Huepe (2008)

MathematicS In Action

Similarity:

Two similar Laplacian-based models for swarms with informed agents are proposed and analyzed analytically and numerically. In these models, each individual adjusts its velocity to match that of its neighbors and some individuals are given a preferred heading direction towards which they accelerate if there is no local velocity consensus. The convergence to a collective group swarming state with constant velocity is analytically proven for a range of parameters and initial conditions....

The extreme value Birnbaum-Saunders model, its moments and an application in biometry

M. Ivette Gomes, Marta Ferreira, Víctor Leiva (2012)

Biometrical Letters

Similarity:

The Birnbaum-Saunders (BS) model is a life distribution that has been widely studied and applied. Recently, a new version of the BS distribution based on extreme value theory has been introduced, named the extreme value Birnbaum-Saunders (EVBS) distribution. In this article we provide some further details on the EVBS models that can be useful as a supplement to the existing results. We use these models to analyse real survival time data for patients treated with alkylating agents for...

Probabilistic mixture-based image modelling

Michal Haindl, Vojtěch Havlíček, Jiří Grim (2011)

Kybernetika

Similarity:

During the last decade we have introduced probabilistic mixture models into image modelling area, which present highly atypical and extremely demanding applications for these models. This difficulty arises from the necessity to model tens thousands correlated data simultaneously and to reliably learn such unusually complex mixture models. Presented paper surveys these novel generative colour image models based on multivariate discrete, Gaussian or Bernoulli mixtures, respectively and...

Analysis and Data Mining of Lead-Zinc Ore Data

Zanev, Vladimir, Topalov, Stanislav, Christov, Veselin (2013)

Serdica Journal of Computing

Similarity:

This paper presents the results of our data mining study of Pb-Zn (lead-zinc) ore assay records from a mine enterprise in Bulgaria. We examined the dataset, cleaned outliers, visualized the data, and created dataset statistics. A Pb-Zn cluster data mining model was created for segmentation and prediction of Pb-Zn ore assay data. The Pb-Zn cluster data model consists of five clusters and DMX queries. We analyzed the Pb-Zn cluster content, size, structure, and characteristics. The set...

An Approach to Wealth Modelling

Stoynov, Pavel (2003)

Serdica Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 60G48, 60G20, 60G15, 60G17. JEL Classification: G10 The change in the wealth of a market agent (an investor, a company, a bank etc.) in an economy is a popular topic in finance. In this paper, we propose a general stochastic model describing the wealth process and give some of its properties and special cases. A result regarding the probability of default within the framework of the model is also offered.

Selection of variables in Discrete Discriminant Analysis

Anabela Marques, Ana Sousa Ferreira, Margarida G.M.S. Cardoso (2013)

Biometrical Letters

Similarity:

In Discrete Discriminant Analysis one often has to deal with dimensionality problems. In fact, even a moderate number of explanatory variables leads to an enormous number of possible states (outcomes) when compared to the number of objects under study, as occurs particularly in the social sciences, humanities and health-related elds. As a consequence, classi cation or discriminant models may exhibit poor performance due to the large number of parameters to be estimated. In the present...
