On separation theorems for subadditive and superadditive functionals

Zbigniew Gajda, Zygfryd Kominek (1991)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

We generalize the well known separation theorems for subadditive and superadditive functionals to some classes of not necessarily Abelian semigroups. We also consider the problem of supporting subadditive functionals by additive ones in the not necessarily commutative case. Our results are motivated by similar extensions of the Hyers stability theorem for the Cauchy functional equation. In this context the so-called weakly commutative and amenable semigroups appear naturally. The relations...

Locally Lipschitz continuous integrated semigroups

Naoki Tanaka (2005)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

This paper is concerned with the problem of real characterization of locally Lipschitz continuous (n + 1)-times integrated semigroups, where n is a nonnegative integer. It is shown that a linear operator is the generator of such an integrated semigroup if and only if it is closed, its resolvent set contains all sufficiently large real numbers, and a stability condition in the spirit of the finite difference approximation theory is satisfied.

On the stability of Bravais lattices and their Cauchy–Born approximations

Thomas Hudson, Christoph Ortner (2012)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis - Modélisation Mathématique et Analyse Numérique

Similarity:

We investigate the stability of Bravais lattices and their Cauchy–Born approximations under periodic perturbations. We formulate a general interaction law and derive its Cauchy–Born continuum limit. We then analyze the atomistic and Cauchy–Born stability regions, that is, the sets of all matrices that describe a stable Bravais lattice in the atomistic and Cauchy–Born models respectively. Motivated by recent results in one dimension on the stability of atomistic/continuum coupling methods,...
