Dynamic contact problems with velocity conditions

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

We consider dynamic problems which describe frictional contact between a body and a foundation. The constitutive law is viscoelastic or elastic and the frictional contact is modelled by a general subdifferential condition on the velocity, including the normal damped responses. We derive weak formulations for the models and prove existence and uniqueness results. The proofs are based on the theory of second-order evolution variational inequalities. We show that the solutions of the viscoelastic...

We study an evolution problem which describes the quasistatic contact of a viscoelastic body with a foundation. We model the contact with normal damped response and a local friction law. We derive a variational formulation of the model and we establish the existence of a unique weak solution to the problem. The proof is based on monotone operators and fixed point arguments. We also establish the continuous dependence of the solution on the contact boundary conditions.

Subdifferential inclusions and quasi-static hemivariational inequalities for frictional viscoelastic contact problems

We survey recent results on the mathematical modeling of nonconvex and nonsmooth contact problems arising in mechanics and engineering. The approach to such problems is based on the notions of an operator subdifferential inclusion and a hemivariational inequality, and focuses on three aspects. First we report on results on the existence and uniqueness of solutions to subdifferential inclusions. Then we discuss two classes of quasi-static hemivariational ineqaulities, and finally, we...
