Dynamics of a two sex population with gestation period

Giorgio Busoni, Andrzej Palczewski (2000)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Similarity:

We investigate a mathematical model of population dynamics for a population of two sexes (male and female) in which new individuals are conceived in a process of mating between individuals of opposed sexes and their appearance is postponed by a period of gestation. The model is a system of two partial differential equations with delay which are additionally coupled by mathematically complicated boundary conditions. We show that this model has a global solution. We also analyze stationary...

The island model as a Markov dynamic system

Robert Schaefer, Aleksander Byrski, Maciej Smołka (2012)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

Parallel multi-deme genetic algorithms are especially advantageous because they allow reducing the time of computations and can perform a much broader search than single-population ones. However, their formal analysis does not seem to have been studied exhaustively enough. In this paper we propose a mathematical framework describing a wide class of island-like strategies as a stationary Markov chain. Our approach uses extensively the modeling principles introduced by Vose, Rudolph and...

Remarks on the economic criterion - the Internal rate of return

Simerská, Carmen

Similarity:

The internal rate of return (IRR) together with the present value (PV) is used as a popular measure for financial project. When used appropriately, it can be a valuable aid in project acceptance or selection. The purpose of this article is to survey the facts about this criterion published so far. More, we investigate the cases of multiple or nonexistent IRRs and try to choose the relevant one and explain its economic meaning.

Population changes as litmus paper of the socio-economic development level of small towns in Poland

Agnieszka Kwiatek-Sołtys (2015)

Annales Universitatis Paedagogicae Cracoviensis Studia Geographica

Similarity:

The main aim of the author was to analyse the population changes of small towns in Poland between 2002 and 2012. Small towns’ reaction to the global and regional demographic trends confirms their position between the rural areas and the urban municipalities. The differences between separate towns are significant, however those located within the metropolitan areas in Poland show a positive population dynamics, natural growth and migration balance net indexes. The image of small towns...
