Covariance algebra of a partial dynamical system

Bartosz Kosma Kwaśniewski (2005)

Open Mathematics

Similarity:

A pair (X, α) is a partial dynamical system if X is a compact topological space and α: Δ→ X is a continuous mapping such that Δ is open. Additionally we assume here that Δ is closed and α(Δ) is open. Such systems arise naturally while dealing with commutative C *-dynamical systems. In this paper we construct and investigate a universal C *-algebra C *(X,α) which agrees with the partial crossed product [10] in the case α is injective, and with the crossed product by a monomorphism [22]...

Chance constrained problems: penalty reformulation and performance of sample approximation technique

Martin Branda (2012)

Kybernetika

Similarity:

We explore reformulation of nonlinear stochastic programs with several joint chance constraints by stochastic programs with suitably chosen penalty-type objectives. We show that the two problems are asymptotically equivalent. Simpler cases with one chance constraint and particular penalty functions were studied in [6,11]. The obtained problems with penalties and with a fixed set of feasible solutions are simpler to solve and analyze then the chance constrained programs. We discuss solving...

Penalized Least Squares Fitting

von Golitschek, Manfred, Schumaker, Larry (2002)

Serdica Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

* Supported by the Army Research Office under grant DAAD-19-02-10059. Bounds on the error of certain penalized least squares data fitting methods are derived. In addition to general results in a fairly abstract setting, more detailed results are included for several particularly interesting special cases, including splines in both one and several variables.
