Contact problem of two elastic bodies. III

Vladimír Janovský, Petr Procházka (1980)

Aplikace matematiky

Similarity:

The goal of the paper is the study of the contact problem of two elastic bodies which is applicable to the solution of displacements and stresses of the earth continuum and the tunnel wall. In this first part the variational formulation of the continuous and discrete model is stated. The second part covers the proof of convergence of finite element method to the solution of continuous problem while in the third part some practical applications are illustrated.

Redesigning of a Canard Control Surface of an Advanced Fighter Aircraft: Effect on Buckling and Aerodynamic Behavior

Sachin Shrivastava, P.M. Mohite (2015)

Curved and Layered Structures

Similarity:

A redesign of canard control-surface of an advanced all-metallic fighter aircraft was carried out by using carbon fibre composite (CFC) for ribs and panels. In this study ply-orientations of CFC structure are optimized using a Genetic-Algorithm (GA) with an objective function to have minimum failure index (FI) according to Tsai-Wu failure criterion. The redesigned CFC structure was sufficiently strong to withstand aerodynamic loads from stress and deflection points of view. Now, in the...

On the solution of a finite element approximation of a linear obstacle plate problem

Luis Fernandes, Isabel Figueiredo, Joaquim Júdice (2002)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

In this paper the solution of a finite element approximation of a linear obstacle plate problem is investigated. A simple version of an interior point method and a block pivoting algorithm have been proposed for the solution of this problem. Special purpose implementations of these procedures are included and have been used in the solution of a set of test problems. The results of these experiences indicate that these procedures are quite efficient to deal with these instances and compare...

A comparison of solvers for linear complementarity problems arising from large-scale masonry structures

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

We compare the numerical performance of several methods for solving the discrete contact problem arising from the finite element discretisation of elastic systems with numerous contact points. The problem is formulated as a variational inequality and discretised using piecewise quadratic finite elements on a triangulation of the domain. At the discrete level, the variational inequality is reformulated as a classical linear complementarity system. We compare several state-of-art algorithms...

Unilateral contact applications using FEM software

M. Stavroulaki, G. Stavroulakis (2002)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

Nonsmooth analysis, inequality constrained optimization and variational inequalities are involved in the modelling of unilateral contact problems. The corresponding theoretical and algorithmic tools, which are part of the area known as nonsmooth mechanics, are by no means classical. In general purpose software some of these tools (perhaps in a simplified way) are currently available. Two engineering applications, a rubber-coated roller contact problem and a masonry wall, solved with...
