Generalized Priority Systems. Analytical Results and Numerical Algorithms

Mishkoy, Gheorghe (2014)

Serdica Journal of Computing

Similarity:

A class of priority systems with non-zero switching times, referred as generalized priority systems, is considered. Analytical results regarding the distribution of busy periods, queue lengths and various auxiliary characteristics are presented. These results can be viewed as generalizations of the Kendall functional equation and the Pollaczek-Khintchin transform equation, respectively. Numerical algorithms for systems’ busy periods and traffic coefficients are developed. ACM Computing...

Subnormal operators, cyclic vectors and reductivity

Béla Nagy (2013)

Studia Mathematica

Similarity:

Two characterizations of the reductivity of a cyclic normal operator in Hilbert space are proved: the equality of the sets of cyclic and *-cyclic vectors, and the equality L²(μ) = P²(μ) for every measure μ equivalent to the scalar-valued spectral measure of the operator. A cyclic subnormal operator is reductive if and only if the first condition is satisfied. Several consequences are also presented.

A discrete-time queueing system with changes in the vacation times

Ivan Atencia (2016)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

This paper considers a discrete-time queueing system in which an arriving customer can decide to follow a last come first served (LCFS) service discipline or to become a negative customer that eliminates the one at service, if any. After service completion, the server can opt for a vacation time or it can remain on duty. Changes in the vacation times as well as their associated distribution are thoroughly studied. An extensive analysis of the system is carried out and, using a probability...

Observations on the Pathophysiology and Mechanisms for Cyclic Neutropenia

C. Colijn, D. C. Dale, C. Foley, M. C. Mackey (2010)

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

Similarity:

We review the basic pathology of cyclical neutropenia in both humans and the grey collie, and examine the role that mathematical modeling of hematopoietic cell production has played in our understanding of the origins of this fascinating dynamical disease.

A finite-buffer queue with a single vacation policy: an analytical study with evolutionary positioning

Marcin Woźniak, Wojciech M. Kempa, Marcin Gabryel, Robert K. Nowicki (2014)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

In this paper, application of an evolutionary strategy to positioning a GI/M/1/N-type finite-buffer queueing system with exhaustive service and a single vacation policy is presented. The examined object is modeled by a conditional joint transform of the first busy period, the first idle time and the number of packets completely served during the first busy period. A mathematical model is defined recursively by means of input distributions. In the paper, an analytical study and numerical...
