In this work scheduling multiprocessor tasks on two parallel identical processors is considered. Multiprocessor tasks can be executed by more than one processor at the same moment of time. We analyze scheduling unit execution time and preemptable tasks to minimize schedule length and maximum lateness. Cases with ready times, due-dates and precedence constraints are discussed.

The minimization of the total completion time for asynchronous transmission in distributed systems is discussed. Attention is focused on the problem of message scheduling on part of the sender. Messages to be sent form a queue, and the order in which they are to be sent has to be first established. The methods of scheduling messages, which minimize the factor of the total completion time, are presented herein. The message-scheduling problem becomes considerably complicated when the stream...

A number of methodological papers published during the last years testify that a need for a thorough revision of the research methodology is felt by the operations research community – see, for example, [Barr (1995) 9–32; Eiben and Jelasity, 582–587; Hooker, (1995) 33–42; Rardin and Uzsoy, (2001) 261–304]. In particular, the performance evaluation of nondeterministic methods, including widely studied metaheuristics such as evolutionary...
