Some combinatorial principles defined in terms of elementary submodels

Similarity:

We give an equivalent, but simpler formulation of the axiom SEP, which was introduced in [9] in order to capture some of the combinatorial behaviour of models of set theory obtained by adding Cohen reals to a model of CH. Our formulation shows that many of the consequences of the weak Freese-Nation property of 𝒫(ω) studied in [6] already follow from SEP. We show that it is consistent that SEP holds while 𝒫(ω) fails to have the (ℵ₁,ℵ ₀)-ideal property introduced in [2]. This answers...

On the notions of absolute continuity for functions of several variables

Stanislav Hencl (2002)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

Absolutely continuous functions of n variables were recently introduced by J. Malý [5]. We introduce a more general definition, suggested by L. Zajíček. This new absolute continuity also implies continuity, weak differentiability with gradient in Lⁿ, differentiability almost everywhere and the area formula. It is shown that our definition does not depend on the shape of balls in the definition.

A piezoelectric contact problem with normal compliance

Mircea Sofonea, Youssef Ouafik (2005)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Similarity:

We consider a mathematical model which describes the static frictional contact between a piezoelectric body and an insulator foundation. We use a nonlinear electroelastic constitutive law to model the piezoelectric material and the normal compliance condition associated to a version of Coulomb's friction law to model the contact. We derive a variational formulation for the model which is in the form of a coupled system involving the displacement and the electric potential fields. Then...

We provide an answer to a question: under what conditions almost continuity in the sense of Husain implies closure continuity?

Modeling heat distribution with the use of a non-integer order, state space model

Krzysztof Oprzędkiewicz, Edyta Gawin, Wojciech Mitkowski (2016)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

A new, state space, non-integer order model for the heat transfer process is presented. The proposed model is based on a Feller semigroup one, the derivative with respect to time is expressed by the non-integer order Caputo operator, and the derivative with respect to length is described by the non-integer order Riesz operator. Elementary properties of the state operator are proven and a formula for the step response of the system is also given. The proposed model is applied to the modeling...

Mathematical modeling of hygro-thermal processes in deformed porous media

Beneš, Michal, Krupička, Lukáš

Similarity:

In this contribution we propose a model of coupled heat and moisture transport in variable saturated deformed porous media. Solution of this model provides temperature, moisture content and strain as a function of space and time. We present the detailed description of the model and a~numerical illustrative example.
