We give several characterizations of the symmetrized n-disc Gₙ which generalize to the case n ≥ 3 the characterizations of the symmetrized bidisc that were used in order to solve the two-point spectral Nevanlinna-Pick problem in ℳ ₂(ℂ). Using these characterizations of the symmetrized n-disc, which give necessary and sufficient conditions for an element to belong to Gₙ, we obtain necessary conditions of interpolation for the general spectral Nevanlinna-Pick problem. They also allow us...

The paper is concerned with conditions guaranteeing that a bounded operator in a reflexive Banach space is a scalar type spectral operator. The cases where the spectrum of the operator lies on the real axis and on the unit circle are studied separately.

We propose a noncommutative holomorphic functional calculus on absolutely convex domains for a Banach algebra homomorphism π of a finite-dimensional solvable Lie algebra 𝔤 in terms of quasispectra σ(π). In particular, we prove that the joint spectral radius of a compact subset in a solvable operator Lie subalgebra coincides with the geometric spectral radius with respect to a quasispectrum.
