On the nonlinear theory of beams with open thin sections

Placido Cicala (1987)

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

Similarity:

Analysis of beam with thin open sections as cylindrical shells evidences restrictions of the Wagner-Vlasof theory: these mainly concern the fulfillment of end conditions. For the case of large deflections, the resultant equations from asymptotic analysis are presented. Their application to buckling under pure flexure shows various novel aspects. By a simple direct approach, investigation is pursued beyond the critical state: the buckled configuration turns out to be stable even for laxer...

Stability of the Pohožaev obstrucion in dimension 3

Olivier Druet, Paul Laurain (2010)

Journal of the European Mathematical Society

Similarity:

We investigate problems connected to the stability of the well-known Pohoˇzaev obstruction. We generalize results which were obtained in the minimizing setting by Brezis and Nirenberg [2] and more recently in the radial situation by Brezis and Willem [3].

Around certain critical cases in stability studies in hydraulic engineering

Vladimir Răsvan (2023)

Archivum Mathematicum

Similarity:

It is considered the mathematical model of a benchmark hydroelectric power plant containing a water reservoir (lake), two water conduits (the tunnel and the turbine penstock), the surge tank and the hydraulic turbine; all distributed (Darcy-Weisbach) and local hydraulic losses are neglected, the only energy dissipator remains the throttling of the surge tank. Exponential stability would require asymptotic stability of the difference operator associated to the model. However in this case...

On families of trajectories of an analytic gradient vector field

Adam Dzedzej, Zbigniew Szafraniec (2005)

Annales Polonici Mathematici

Similarity:

For an analytic function f:ℝⁿ,0 → ℝ,0 having a critical point at the origin, we describe the topological properties of the partition of the family of trajectories of the gradient equation ẋ = ∇f(x) attracted by the origin, given by characteristic exponents and asymptotic critical values.

Stability modulo singular sets

J. Iglesias, A. Portela, A. Rovella (2009)

Fundamenta Mathematicae

Similarity:

A new concept of stability, closely related to that of structural stability, is introduced and applied to the study of C¹ endomorphisms with singularities. A map that is stable in this sense is conjugate to each perturbation that is equivalent to it in a geometric sense. It is shown that this kind of stability implies Axiom A and Ω-stability, and that every critical point is wandering. A partial converse is also shown, providing new examples of C³ structurally stable maps.

Perturbations of Critical Values in Nonsmooth Critical Point Theory

Degiovanni, M., Lancelotti, S. (1996)

Serdica Mathematical Journal

Similarity:

* Supported by Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica (40% – 1993). ** Supported by Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica (40% – 1993). The perturbation of critical values for continuous functionals is studied. An application to eigenvalue problems for variational inequalities is provided.
