Existence and uniqueness for a two-dimensional Ventcel problem modeling the equilibrium of a prestressed membrane

Antonio Greco, Giuseppe Viglialoro (2023)

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

This paper deals with a mixed boundary-value problem of Ventcel type in two variables. The peculiarity of the Ventcel problem lies in the fact that one of the boundary conditions involves second order differentiation along the boundary. Under suitable assumptions on the data, we first give the definition of a weak solution, and then we prove that the problem is uniquely solvable. We also consider a particular case arising in real-world applications and discuss the resulting model. ...

Some mixed finite element methods on anisotropic meshes

Mohamed Farhloul, Serge Nicaise, Luc Paquet (2010)

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

Similarity:

The paper deals with some mixed finite element methods on a class of anisotropic meshes based on tetrahedra and prismatic (pentahedral) elements. Anisotropic local interpolation error estimates are derived in some anisotropic weighted Sobolev spaces. As particular applications, the numerical approximation by mixed methods of the Laplace equation in domains with edges is investigated where anisotropic finite element meshes are appropriate. Optimal error estimates are obtained using...

Solvability of the heat equation in weighted Sobolev spaces

Wojciech M. Zajączkowski (2011)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Similarity:

The existence of solutions to an initial-boundary value problem to the heat equation in a bounded domain in ℝ³ is proved. The domain contains an axis and the existence is proved in weighted anisotropic Sobolev spaces with weight equal to a negative power of the distance to the axis. Therefore we prove the existence of solutions which vanish sufficiently fast when approaching the axis. We restrict our considerations to the Dirichlet problem, but the Neumann and the third boundary value...

On imbedding theorems for weighted anisotropic Sobolev spaces

Wojciech M. Zajączkowski (2002)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Similarity:

Using the Il'in integral representation of functions, imbedding theorems for weighted anisotropic Sobolev spaces in 𝔼ⁿ are proved. By the weight we assume a power function of the distance from an (n-2)-dimensional subspace passing through the domain considered.

A lower bound on local energy of partial sum of eigenfunctions for Laplace-Beltrami operators

Qi Lü (2013)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

Similarity:

In this paper, a lower bound is established for the local energy of partial sum of eigenfunctions for Laplace-Beltrami operators (in Riemannian manifolds with low regularity data) with general boundary condition. This result is a consequence of a new pointwise and weighted estimate for Laplace-Beltrami operators, a construction of some nonnegative function with arbitrary given critical point location in the manifold, and also two interpolation results for solutions of elliptic equations...

General Gagliardo Inequality and Applications to Weighted Sobolev Spaces

Antonio Avantaggiati, Paola Loreti (2009)

Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana

Similarity:

In this paper we obtain a more general inequality with respect to a well known inequality due to Gagliardo (see [4], [5]). The inequality contained in [4], [5] has been extended to weighted spaces, obtained as cartesian product of measurable spaces. As application, we obtain a first order weighted Sobolev inequality. This generalize a previous result obtained in [2].
