Kuřim – the largest small town in the South-Moravian Region (Czechia)

Antonín Vaishar (2015)

Annales Universitatis Paedagogicae Cracoviensis Studia Geographica

Similarity:

The author has dealt with a role of the small city of Kuřim (population ca. 11,000) in the suburban zone of Brno. Based on statistical data and field research, this small towns was analysed with its own activities in jobs and services to compare it with suburbanized villages almost completely reliant on commuting to the main city. Kuřim is a subordinated job centre and junction of the public transport distributing transport flows on the north-western fringe of Brno, including mutual...

Population changes as litmus paper of the socio-economic development level of small towns in Poland

Agnieszka Kwiatek-Sołtys (2015)

Annales Universitatis Paedagogicae Cracoviensis Studia Geographica

Similarity:

The main aim of the author was to analyse the population changes of small towns in Poland between 2002 and 2012. Small towns’ reaction to the global and regional demographic trends confirms their position between the rural areas and the urban municipalities. The differences between separate towns are significant, however those located within the metropolitan areas in Poland show a positive population dynamics, natural growth and migration balance net indexes. The image of small towns...

Selected features of socio-demographic structure of a postmilitary town that emerged after the decommissioning of the Soviet Army’s secret military base in Poland – the Borne Sulinowo example

Anna Płoskoń (2015)

Annales Universitatis Paedagogicae Cracoviensis Studia Geographica

Similarity:

The goal of the paper was to present the selected socio-demographic features of Borne Sulinowo, a unique town in Poland, established within the area of the former secret military base of the Soviet Army and never used for non-military purposes before 1993. Borne Sulinowo is located in the north-west, approx. 20 kilometres from Szczecinek town. Before the World War II it had been a German garrison with the Wehrmacht Artillery School and after 1945 the area was taken over by the Soviet...

Impact of selected socio-economic factors on migration patterns in Poland

Piotr Raźniak (2015)

Annales Universitatis Paedagogicae Cracoviensis Studia Geographica

Similarity:

This paper identifies the impact of socio-economic development on migrations in Poland. It analyses the influence the development exerts on population’s migrations within the country. In addition, counties were ranked by their socio-economic development on the basis of such criteria as: the average investment in enterprises in PLN per capita, the average number of newly registered business entities per 1,000 inhabitants, a percentage growth in the number of apartments in 2010 against...

Mathematical Modeling and Quantitative Analysis of the Demographic and Ecological Aspects of Russian Supermortality

A. K. Cherkashin, Ya. A. Leshchenko (2011)

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

Similarity:

We have carried out a polysystem analysis of the population dynamics by using a variety of hypotheses and their respective models based on different system interpretations of the phenomenon under investigation. Each of the models supplements standard dynamic equations for explaining the effects observed. A qualitative model-based analysis is made of the age-specific male mortality for a Siberian industrial city. The study revealed the ...

The impatience mechanism as a diversity maintaining and saddle crossing strategy

Iwona Karcz-Duleba (2016)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

The impatience mechanism diversifies the population and facilitates escaping from a local optima trap by modifying fitness values of poorly adapted individuals. In this paper, two versions of the impatience mechanism coupled with a phenotypic model of evolution are studied. A population subordinated to a basic version of the impatience mechanism polarizes itself and evolves as a dipole centered around an averaged individual. In the modified version, the impatience mechanism is supplied...

Mathematical Modeling Describing the Effect of Fishing and Dispersion on Hermaphrodite Population Dynamics

S. Ben Miled, A. Kebir, M. L. Hbid (2010)

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

Similarity:

In order to study the impact of fishing on a grouper population, we propose in this paper to model the dynamics of a grouper population in a fishing territory by using structured models. For that purpose, we have integrated the natural population growth, the fishing, the competition for shelter and the dispersion. The dispersion was considered as a consequence of the competition. First we prove, that the grouper stocks may be less sensitive...

Do Demographic and Disease Structures Affect the Recurrence of Epidemics ?

A. Castellazzo, A. Mauro, C. Volpe, E. Venturino (2012)

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

Similarity:

In this paper we present an epidemic model affecting an age-structured population. We show by numerical simulations that this demographic structure can induce persistent oscillations in the epidemic. The model is then extended to encompass a stage-structured disease within an age-dependent population. In this case as well, persistent oscillations are observed in the infected as well as in the whole population.

Endogenous capital of small towns in the Poznań agglomeration

Barbara Konecka-Szydłowska, Barbara Maćkiewicz (2015)

Annales Universitatis Paedagogicae Cracoviensis Studia Geographica

Similarity:

The aim of this paper is to identify the endogenous capital of small towns in the Poznań agglomeration and to analyse its role in their development. The agglomeration of Poznań (a NUTS 4 unit) is located centrally in the Wielkopolska voivodeship, which lies in the western part of Poland. There are eight small towns in the Poznań agglomeration that vary in size and socio-economic functions they perform. They belong to two size classes. Those with 5–10 thousand inhabitants predominate;...

Time to the convergence of evolution in the space of population states

Iwona Karcz-Dulęba (2004)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

Phenotypic evolution of two-element populations with proportional selection and normally distributed mutation is considered. Trajectories of the expected location of the population in the space of population states are investigated. The expected location of the population generates a discrete dynamical system. The study of its fixed points, their stability and time to convergence is presented. Fixed points are located in the vicinity of optima and saddles. For large values of the standard...
