Stokes recognized that the viscosity of a fluid can depend on the normal stress and that in certain flows such as flows in a pipe or in channels under normal conditions, this dependence can be neglected. However, there are many other flows, which have technological significance, where the dependence of the viscosity on the pressure cannot be neglected. Numerous experimental studies have unequivocally shown that the viscosity depends on the pressure, and that this dependence can be quite...

Classical solutions for the equations modelling the motion of a ball in a bidimensional incompressible perfect fluid

In this paper we investigate the motion of a rigid ball in an incompressible perfect fluid occupying 2 . We prove the global in time existence and the uniqueness of the classical solution for this fluid-structure problem. The proof relies mainly on weighted estimates for the vorticity associated with the strong solution of a fluid-structure problem obtained by incorporating some dissipation.

Domain sensitivity in singular limits of compressible viscous fluids

Séminaire Laurent Schwartz — EDP et applications

In this note, we discuss several recently developed methods for studying stability of a singular limit process with respect to the shape of the underlying physical space. As a model example, we consider a compressible viscous barotropic fluid occupying a spatial domain Ω R 3 . In what follows, we describe two rather different problems: (i) the choice of effective boundary conditions; (ii) the fluid flow in the low Mach number regime. In the remaining part of the paper, we analyze these two...

Two phase flow arising in hydraulics

Ivan Straškraba (2015)

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

The aim of this paper is to proceed in the study of the system which will be specified below. The system concerns fluid flow in a simple hydraulic system consisting of a pipe with generator on one side and a valve or some more complicated hydraulic elements on the other end of the pipe. The purpose of the research is a rigorous mathematical analysis of the corresponding linearized system. Here, we analyze the linearized problem near the fixed steady state which already have been explicitly...
