Combustion in hydraulically resisted flows.

Gregory I. Sivashinsky (2007)

Similarity:

The effects of hydraulic resistance on premixed gas combustion in tubes and inert porous beds are discussed on the basis of recent research. It is found that the hydraulic resistance causes a gradual precompression and preheating of the unburned gas adjacent to the advancing deflagration which may lead (after an extended induction period) to a localized thermal explosion triggering an abrupt transition from deglagrative to detonative combustion. The hydraulic resistance has a profound...

A zoology of boundary layers.

David Gérard-Varet, Emmanuel Grenier (2002)

RACSAM

Similarity:

In meteorology and magnetohydrodynamics many different boundary layers appear. Some of them are already mathematically well known, like Ekman or Hartmann layers. Others remain unstudied, and can be much more complex. The aim of this paper is to give a simple and unified presentation of the main boundary layers, and to propose a simple method to derive their sizes and equations.
