The purpose of this paper is to develop, in the context of operators of class C, a theory of Fredholm complexes analogous to that in [6], including an index stability result under perturbations. As a by-product, a simple proof of the additivity of the index for C-Fredholm operators will be given.

We discuss Fredholm pairs of subspaces and associated Grassmannians in a Hilbert space. Relations between several existing definitions of Fredholm pairs are established as well as some basic geometric properties of the Kato Grassmannian. It is also shown that the so-called restricted Grassmannian can be endowed with a natural Fredholm structure making it into a Fredholm Hilbert manifold.

Being expected as a Banach space substitute of the orthogonal projections on Hilbert spaces, generalized n-circular projections also extend the notion of generalized bicontractive projections on JB*-triples.
