Control of a clamped-free beam by a piezoelectric actuator

Emmanuelle Crépeau, Christophe Prieur (2006)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

Similarity:

We consider a controllability problem for a beam, clamped at one boundary and free at the other boundary, with an attached piezoelectric actuator. By Hilbert Uniqueness Method (HUM) and new results on diophantine approximations, we prove that the space of exactly initial controllable data depends on the location of the actuator. We also illustrate these results with numerical simulations.

Simultaneous controllability in sharp time for two elastic strings

Sergei Avdonin, Marius Tucsnak (2001)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

Similarity:

We study the simultaneously reachable subspace for two strings controlled from a common endpoint. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for simultaneous spectral and approximate controllability. Moreover we prove the lack of simultaneous exact controllability and we study the space of simultaneously reachable states as a function of the position of the joint. For each type of controllability result we give the sharp controllability time.

Exact boundary controllability of coupled hyperbolic equations

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

We study the exact boundary controllability of two coupled one dimensional wave equations with a control acting only in one equation. The problem is transformed into a moment problem. This framework has been used in control theory of distributed parameter systems since the classical works of A.G. Butkovsky, H.O. Fattorini and D.L. Russell in the late 1960s to the early 1970s. We use recent results on the Riesz basis property of exponential divided differences.

Control of networks of Euler-Bernoulli beams

Bertrand Dekoninck, Serge Nicaise (2010)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

Similarity:

We consider the exact controllability problem by boundary action of hyperbolic systems of networks of Euler-Bernoulli beams. Using the multiplier method and Ingham's inequality, we give sufficient conditions insuring the exact controllability for all time. These conditions are related to the spectral behaviour of the associated operator and are sufficiently concrete in order to be able to check them on particular networks as illustrated on simple examples.
