The complex phenomenon of solid wax deposition in wax saturated crude oils subject to thermal gradients has been treated in a number of papers under very specific assumptions (e.g. thermodynamical equilibrium between dissolved wax and the wax suspended in the oil as a crystallized phase). Here we want to consider a more general framework in which thermodynamical equilibrium may not exist, the whole system may form a gel-like structure in which the segregated solid wax has no diffusivity, the thermal...
A model is presented for a Hele-Shaw flow with variable temperature in one space dimension. The problem to be solved is a free boundary problem for a parabolic equation with a non-linear and non-local free boundary condition. Existence and uniqueness are proved.
A-priori estimates in weighted Hölder norms are obtained for the solutions of a one- dimensional boundary value problem for the heat equation in a domain degenerating at time t = 0 and with boundary data involving simultaneously the first order time derivative and the spatial gradient.
We study the unsaturated flow of an incompressible liquid carrying a bacterial population through a porous medium contaminated with some pollutant. The biomass grows feeding on the pollutant and affecting at the same time all the physics of the flow. We formulate a mathematical model in a one-dimensional setting and we prove an existence theorem for it. The so-called fluid media scaling approach, often used in the literature, is discussed and its limitations are pointed out on the basis of a specific...
