Certain well known results by B. Segre are generalized by showing a further impossibility of extending for conveniently high values of the genus g a process given by Severi in studying the moduli of algebraic curves. It is also shown that, for g > 6, no algebraic system of non-singular algebraic curves of genus g having general moduli can lie on any given algebraic surface.
