A description of the trophic structure of the river Po and Garigliano is presented. At the same time a comparison was attempted between the two food-webs. The food-web of the river Garigliano, in general, appears to be more "open", whilst that of the river Po seems more complex but not so rich in energy output. The importance of human activity in the two ecosystems is also taken into consideration.
The composition of the periphytic populations by means of the immersion of natural substrata (stones) in a stretch of low marshy land of a river was studied. The results obtained with seasonal experiments are reported. The colonization of the substrata is vast during the entire year and, in terms of biomass, is larger in autumn for vegetation and in winter for animals.
