Isometric immersions of the hyperbolic space H n ( - 1 ) into H n + 1 ( - 1 )

Ze-Jun Hu — 1999

Colloquium Mathematicae

We transform the problem of determining isometric immersions from H n ( - 1 ) into H n + 1 ( - 1 ) into that of solving equations of degenerate Monge-Ampère type on the unit ball B n ( 1 ) . By presenting one family of special solutions to the equations, we obtain a great many noncongruent examples of such isometric immersions with or without umbilic set.

Period doubling, entropy, and renormalization

Jun HuCharles Tresser — 1998

Fundamenta Mathematicae

We show that in any family of stunted sawtooth maps, the set of maps whose set of periods is the set of all powers of 2 has no interior point. Similar techniques then allow us to show that, under mild assumptions, smooth multimodal maps whose set of periods is the set of all powers of 2 are infinitely renormalizable with the diameters of all periodic intervals going to zero as the period goes to infinity.

On the nonexistence of stable minimal submanifolds and the Lawson-Simons conjecture

Ze-Jun HuGuo-Xin Wei — 2003

Colloquium Mathematicae

Let M̅ be a compact Riemannian manifold with sectional curvature K M ̅ satisfying 1 / 5 < K M ̅ 1 (resp. 2 K M ̅ < 10 ), which can be isometrically immersed as a hypersurface in the Euclidean space (resp. the unit Euclidean sphere). Then there exist no stable compact minimal submanifolds in M̅. This extends Shen and Xu’s result for 1/4-pinched Riemannian manifolds and also suggests a modified version of the well-known Lawson-Simons conjecture.

Extending the Dehn quandle to shears and foliations on the torus

Reza ChamanaraJun HuJoel Zablow — 2014

Fundamenta Mathematicae

The Dehn quandle, Q, of a surface was defined via the action of Dehn twists about circles on the surface upon other circles. On the torus, 𝕋², we generalize this to show the existence of a quandle Q̂ extending Q and whose elements are measured geodesic foliations. The quandle action in Q̂ is given by applying a shear along such a foliation to another foliation. We extend some results which related Dehn quandle homology to the monodromy of Lefschetz fibrations. We apply certain quandle 2-cycles...

Optimized state estimation for nonlinear dynamical networks subject to fading measurements and stochastic coupling strength: An event-triggered communication mechanism

Chaoqing JiaJun HuChongyang LvYujing Shi — 2020

Kybernetika

This paper is concerned with the design of event-based state estimation algorithm for nonlinear complex networks with fading measurements and stochastic coupling strength. The event-based communication protocol is employed to save energy and enhance the network transmission efficiency, where the changeable event-triggered threshold is adopted to adjust the data transmission frequency. The phenomenon of fading measurements is described by a series of random variables obeying certain probability distribution....
