For a bounded operator T on a separable infinite-dimensional Banach space X, we give a "random" criterion not involving ergodic theory which implies that T is frequently hypercyclic: there exists a vector x such that for every non-empty open subset U of X, the set of integers n such that Tⁿx belongs to U, has positive lower density. This gives a connection between two different methods for obtaining the frequent hypercyclicity of operators.
If is a strictly increasing sequence of integers, a continuous probability measure σ on the unit circle is said to be IP-Dirichlet with respect to if as F runs over all non-empty finite subsets F of ℕ and the minimum of F tends to infinity. IP-Dirichlet measures and their connections with IP-rigid dynamical systems have recently been investigated by Aaronson, Hosseini and Lemańczyk. We simplify and generalize some of their results, using an approach involving generalized Riesz products.
Let X be an infinite dimensional separable Banach space. There exists a hypercyclic operator on X which is equal to the identity operator on an infinite dimensional closed subspace of X.
We study conditions on an infinite dimensional separable Banach space implying that is the only non-trivial invariant subspace of under the action of the algebra of biconjugates of bounded operators on : . Such a space is called simple. We characterize simple spaces among spaces which contain an isomorphic copy of , and show in particular that any space which does not contain and has property (u) of Pelczynski is simple.
We study recurrence and non-recurrence sets for dynamical systems on compact spaces, in particular for products of rotations on the unit circle . A set of integers is called -Bohr if it is recurrent for all products of rotations on , and Bohr if it is recurrent for all products of rotations on . It is a result due to Katznelson that for each there exist sets of integers which are -Bohr but not -Bohr. We present new examples of -Bohr sets which are not Bohr, thanks to a construction which...
