El Grupo Español de la International Biometric Society se constituyó en 1985, con 34 miembros, algunos procedentes del grupo internacional. Ha celebrado 5 congfresos nacionales, el último de ellos en Valencia (Junio 1995). Actualmente tiene unos 100 miembros, divididos en cuatro áreas: Agricultura, Biología, Medicina y Psicología.
Advanced calculus is necessary to prove rigorously the main properties of the Cauchy distribution. It is well known that the Cauchy distribution can be generated by a tangent transformation of the uniform distribution. By interpreting this transformation on a circle, it is possible to present elementary and intuitive proofs of some important and useful properties of the distribution.
We show the statistical influence in the society under a historical and current perspective. The methods and results obtained using statistics mean a modern and essential way of thinking, which covers all fields of knowledge and all human activities.
Any bivariate cdf is bounded by the Fréchet-Hoeffding lower and upper bounds. We illustrate the importance of the upper bound in several ways. Any bivariate distribution can be written in terms of this bound, which is implicit in logit analysis and the Lorenz curve, and can be used in goodness-of-fit assesment.
