Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

Feral mice (Mus musculus L.) with a 22-chromosome complement were found to constitute a mountain population in the central Apennines. The karyotype differs by 9 Robertsonian fusions from that of the common house mouse (2 n = 40). Laboratory hybrids were obtained from these 22-chromosome mice crossed with albino mice; these hybrids have 31 chromosomes and show 9 trivalents in the meiotic diakinesis. 3 mice were found show ing 38, 37 and 34 chromosome complements in a village at the boundary of the...

Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Rendiconti

The chromosome complement of an experimental hybrid Salmo gairdneri X Salvelinus fontinalis has been investigated in 21 specimens. The chromosomes number has been demonstrated to vary both intrerindividually as well as within the different tissues of the same subject. The chromosome number ranges from 92 to 106 and the Fundamental numbers vary from 133 to 159. The morphological analysis of the hybrid karyotypes evidences that each complement is made up by one haploid set of Salvelinus fontinalis...
