In this paper we survey some recent results concerning separating polynomials on real Banach spaces. By this we mean a polynomial which separates the origin from the unit sphere of the space, thus providing an analog of the separating quadratic form on Hilbert space.

The main contribution of this work is to provide two algorithms for the computation of the minimal polynomial of univariate polynomial matrices. The first algorithm is based on the solution of linear matrix equations while the second one employs DFT techniques. The whole theory is illustrated with examples.

In this paper, we consider polynomial systems of the form x' = y + P(x, y), y' = -x + Q(x, y), where P and Q are polynomials of degree n wihout linear part. For the case n = 3, we have found new sufficient conditions for a center at the origin, by proposing a first integral linear in certain coefficient of the system.
