Bifurcation and control for a discrete-time prey-predator model with Holling-IV functional response

Qiaoling Chen, Zhidong Teng, Zengyun Hu (2013)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

The dynamics of a discrete-time predator-prey model with Holling-IV functional response are investigated. It is shown that the model undergoes a flip bifurcation, a Hopf bifurcation and a saddle-node bifurcation by using the center manifold theorem and bifurcation theory. Numerical simulations not only exhibit our results with the theoretical analysis, but also show the complex dynamical behaviors, such as the period-3, 6, 9, 12, 20, 63, 70, 112 orbits, a cascade of period-doubling bifurcations...

Nutrient-phytoplankton-zooplankton interaction with variable yields

Joydeb Bhattacharyya, Samares Pal (2013)

Applicationes Mathematicae

Similarity:

A three dimensional predator-prey-resource model is proposed and analyzed to study the dynamics of the system with resource-dependent yields of the organisms. Our analysis leads to different thresholds in terms of the model parameters acting as conditions under which the organisms associated with the system cannot thrive even in the absence of predation. Local stability of the system is obtained in the absence of one or more of the predators and in the presence of all the predators....

Local Bifurcations in a Nonlinear Model of a Bioreactor

Dimitrova, Neli (2009)

Serdica Journal of Computing

Similarity:

This paper is partially supported by the Bulgarian Science Fund under grant Nr. DO 02– 359/2008. We consider a nonlinear model of a continuously stirred bioreactor and study the stability of the equilibrium points with respect to practically important model parameters. We determine regions in the parameter space where the steady states undergo transcritical and Hopf bifurcations. In the latter case, the stability of the emerged limit cycles is also studied. Numerical simulations...

One-Parameter Bifurcation Analysis of Dynamical Systems using Maple

Borisov, Milen, Dimitrova, Neli (2010)

Serdica Journal of Computing

Similarity:

This paper presents two algorithms for one-parameter local bifurcations of equilibrium points of dynamical systems. The algorithms are implemented in the computer algebra system Maple 13 © and designed as a package. Some examples are reported to demonstrate the package’s facilities. * This paper is partially supported by the Bulgarian Science Fund under grant Nr. DO 02–359/2008.

Stability and Hopf bifurcation analysis for a Lotka-Volterra predator-prey model with two delays

Changjin Xu, Maoxin Liao, Xiaofei He (2011)

International Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Similarity:

In this paper, a two-species Lotka-Volterra predator-prey model with two delays is considered. By analyzing the associated characteristic transcendental equation, the linear stability of the positive equilibrium is investigated and Hopf bifurcation is demonstrated. Some explicit formulae for determining the stability and direction of Hopf bifurcation periodic solutions bifurcating from Hopf bifurcations are obtained by using normal form theory and center manifold theory. Some numerical...

Herbivore harvesting and alternative steady states in coral reefs

Ikbal Hossein Sarkar, Joydeb Bhattacharyya, Samares Pal (2021)

Applications of Mathematics

Similarity:

Coral reefs can undergo relatively rapid changes in the dominant biota, a phenomenon referred to as phase shift. Degradation of coral reefs is often associated with changes in community structure towards a macroalgae-dominated reef ecosystem due to the reduction in herbivory caused by overfishing. We investigate the coral-macroalgal phase shift due to the effects of harvesting of herbivorous reef fish by means of a continuous time model in the food chain. Conditions for local asymptotic...

Multiple existence and stability of steady-states for a prey-predator system with cross-diffusion

Kousuke Kuto, Yoshio Yamada (2004)

Banach Center Publications

Similarity:

This article discusses a prey-predator system with cross-diffusion. We obtain multiple positive steady-state solutions of this system. More precisely, we prove that the set of positive steady-states possibly contains an S or ⊃-shaped branch with respect to a bifurcation parameter in the large cross-diffusion case. Next we give some criteria on the stability of these positive steady-states. Furthermore, we find the Hopf bifurcation point on the steady-state solution branch in a certain...
