Structured population dynamics

The objective of these lectures is to apply the theory of linear and nonlinear semigroups of operators to models of structured populations dynamics. The mathematical models of structured populations are typically partial differential equations with variables corresponding to such properties of individual as age, size, maturity, proliferative state, quiescent state, phenotype expression, or other physical properties. The main goal is to connect behavior at the individual level to behavior...

Do Demographic and Disease Structures Affect the Recurrence of Epidemics ?

In this paper we present an epidemic model affecting an age-structured population. We show by numerical simulations that this demographic structure can induce persistent oscillations in the epidemic. The model is then extended to encompass a stage-structured disease within an age-dependent population. In this case as well, persistent oscillations are observed in the infected as well as in the whole population.

Analysis of a Population Model Structured by the Cells Molecular Content

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena

We study the mathematical properties of a general model of cell division structured with several internal variables. We begin with a simpler and specific model with two variables, we solve the eigenvalue problem with strong or weak assumptions, and deduce from it the long-time convergence. The main difficulty comes from natural degeneracy of birth terms that we overcome with a regularization technique. We then extend the results to the case with several parameters and recall the link...
