A Hybrid Approach Combining Local Search and Constraint Programming for a Large Scale Energy Management Problem

Haris Gavranović, Mirsad Buljubašić (2013)

RAIRO - Operations Research - Recherche Opérationnelle

Similarity:

This paper presents a heuristic approach combining constraint satisfaction, local search and a constructive optimization algorithm for a large-scale energy management and maintenance scheduling problem. The methodology shows how to successfully combine and orchestrate different types of algorithms and to produce competitive results. We also propose an efficient way to scale the method for huge instances. A large part of the presented work was done to compete in the ROADEF/EURO Challenge...

Efficient and local efficient solutions for assignment type problems

Jacques A. Ferland, Pina Marziliano (2001)

RAIRO - Operations Research - Recherche Opérationnelle

Similarity:

In this paper, we analyse the multiobjective problem generated by applying a goal programming approach to deal with linear assignment type problem. We specify sufficient conditions for a solution to be efficient for this problem. The notion of efficiency with respect to a neighborhood is also introduced and characterized through sufficient conditions. Unfortunately, these conditions are not necessary in general.

Interactive compromise hypersphere method and its applications

Sebastian Sitarz (2012)

RAIRO - Operations Research - Recherche Opérationnelle

Similarity:

The paper focuses on multi-criteria problems. It presents the interactive compromise hypersphere method with sensitivity analysis as a decision tool in multi-objective programming problems. The method is based on finding a hypersphere (in the criteria space) which is closest to the set of chosen nondominated solutions. The proposed modifications of the compromise hypersphere method are based on using various metrics and analyzing their influence on the original method. Applications of...

Airspace sectorization with constraints

Huy Trandac, Philippe Baptiste, Vu Duong (2010)

RAIRO - Operations Research

Similarity:

We consider the Airspace Sectorization Problem (ASP) in which airspace has to be partitioned into a given number of sectors, each of which being assigned to a team of air traffic controllers. The objective is to minimize the coordination workload between adjacent sectors while balancing the total workload of controllers. Many specific constraints, including both geometrical and aircraft related constraints are taken into account. The problem is solved in a constraint programming framework....

Reformulations in Mathematical Programming: Definitions and Systematics

Leo Liberti (2009)

RAIRO - Operations Research

Similarity:

A reformulation of a mathematical program is a formulation which shares some properties with, but is in some sense better than, the original program. Reformulations are important with respect to the choice and efficiency of the solution algorithms; furthermore, it is desirable that reformulations can be carried out automatically. Reformulation techniques are widespread in mathematical programming but interestingly they have never been studied under a unified framework. This paper attempts...
