Deterministic state-constrained optimal control problems without controllability assumptions

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

Similarity:

In the present paper, we consider nonlinear optimal control problems with constraints on the state of the system. We are interested in the characterization of the value function without any controllability assumption. In the unconstrained case, it is possible to derive a characterization of the value function by means of a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation. This equation expresses the behavior of the value function along the trajectories arriving or starting from any position ....

A general Hamilton-Jacobi framework for non-linear state-constrained control problems

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

Similarity:

The paper deals with deterministic optimal control problems with state constraints and non-linear dynamics. It is known for such problems that the value function is in general discontinuous and its characterization by means of a Hamilton-Jacobi equation requires some controllability assumptions involving the dynamics and the set of state constraints. Here, we first adopt the viability point of view and look at the value function as its epigraph. Then, we prove that this epigraph can...

On the cost of null-control of an artificial advection-diffusion problem

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

Similarity:

In this paper we study the null-controllability of an artificial advection-diffusion system in dimension . Using a spectral method, we prove that the control cost goes to zero exponentially when the viscosity vanishes and the control time is large enough. On the other hand, we prove that the control cost tends to infinity exponentially when the viscosity vanishes and the control time is small enough.

Coplanar control of a satellite around the Earth

Jean-Baptiste Caillau, Joseph Noailles (2010)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

Similarity:

We investigate the minimum time transfer of a satellite around the Earth. Using an optimal control model, we study the controllability of the system and propose a geometrical analysis of the optimal command structure. Furthermore, in order to solve the problem numerically, a new parametric technique is introduced for which convergence properties are established.

On asymptotic exit-time control problems lacking coercivity

M. Motta, C. Sartori (2014)

ESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations

Similarity:

The research on a class of asymptotic exit-time problems with a vanishing Lagrangian, begun in [M. Motta and C. Sartori, Springer (2014).] for the compact control case, is extended here to the case of unbounded controls and data, including both coercive and non-coercive problems. We give sufficient conditions to have a well-posed notion of generalized control problem and obtain regularity, characterization and approximation results for the value function of the problem.
