Some recent results on the Muskat problem

Angel Castro, Diego Córdoba, Francisco Gancedo (2010)

Journées Équations aux dérivées partielles

Similarity:

We consider the dynamics of an interface given by two incompressible fluids with different characteristics evolving by Darcy’s law. This scenario is known as the Muskat problem, being in 2D mathematically analogous to the two-phase Hele-Shaw cell. The purpose of this paper is to outline recent results on local existence, weak solutions, maximum principles and global existence.

Convergence of the rotating fluids system in a domain with rough boundaries

David Gérard-Varet (2003)

Journées équations aux dérivées partielles

Similarity:

We consider a rotating fluid in a domain with rough horizontal boundaries. The Rossby number, kinematic viscosity and roughness are supposed of characteristic size ϵ . We prove a convergence theorem on solutions of Navier-Stokes Coriolis equations, as ϵ goes to zero, in the well prepared case. We show in particular that the limit system is a two-dimensional Euler equation with a nonlinear damping term due to boundary layers. We thus generalize the results obtained on flat boundaries with...

Asymptotic behaviors of internal waves

J. Bona, D. Lannes, J.-C. Saut (2008)

Journées Équations aux dérivées partielles

Similarity:

We present here a systematic method of derivation of asymptotic models for internal waves, that is, for the propagation of waves at the interface of two fluids of different densities. Many physical regimes are investigated, depending on the physical parameters (depth of the fluids, amplitude and wavelength of the interface deformations). This systematic method allows us to recover the many models existing in the literature and to derive some new models, in particular in the case of large...

Mathematical analysis of the discharge of a laminar hot gas in a colder atmosphere.

Stanislav Antontsev, Jesús Ildefonso Díaz (2007)

RACSAM

Similarity:

We study the boundary layer approximation of the, already classical, mathematical model which describes the discharge of a laminar hot gas in a stagnant colder atmosphere of the same gas. We start by proving the existence and uniqueness of solutions of the nondegenerate problem under assumptions implying that the temperature T and the horizontal velocity u of the gas are strictly positive: T ≥ δ > 0 and u ≥ ε > 0 (here δ and ε are given as boundary conditions in the external...
