Conditions for bimodality and multimodality of a mixture of two unimodal densities

Šárka Došlá (2009)

Kybernetika

Similarity:

Conditions for bimodality of mixtures of two unimodal distributions are investigated in some special cases. Based on general characterizations, explicit criteria for the parameters are derived for mixtures of two Cauchy, logistic, Student, gamma, log-normal, Gumbel and other distributions.

A compound of the generalized negative binomial distribution with the generalized beta distribution

Tadeusz Gerstenkorn (2004)

Open Mathematics

Similarity:

This paper presents a compound of the generalized negative binomial distribution with the generalized beta distribution. In the introductory part of the paper, we provide a chronological overview of recent developments in the compounding of distributions, including the Polish results. Then, in addition to presenting the probability function of the compound generalized negative binomial-generalized beta distribution, we present special cases as well as factorial and crude moments of some...

Core functions and core divergences of regular distributions

Zdeněk Fabián, Igor Vajda (2003)

Kybernetika

Similarity:

On bounded or unbounded intervals of the real line, we introduce classes of regular statistical families, called Johnson families because they are obtained using generalized Johnson transforms. We study in a rigorous manner the formerly introduced concept of core function of a distribution from a Johnson family, which is a modification of the well known score function and which in a one-to-one manner represents the distribution. Further, we study Johnson parametrized families obtained...
